One of if not the most commonly stated issue to residents in our communities is Property Tax and Affordability. As such if elected one of my key promises I make to you is a pause for at least one to two years on any increase in property tax. To make up for this money I will work to ensure specialized districts are created in areas with corporate hotels to take pressure off the working-class families in our city.
A pause on Property Taxation means nothing if the average person can't afford property or even rent. As such as part of my platform of affordability I aim to pursue housing developments across Portland specifically for the middle-income bracket. Projects such as continuing to work with Augusta to bring badly needed State-wide funds into our city, working with developers, and if needed building it ourselves. Having a safe place to live is the most important part of our lives. The outrageous prices and rates being charged right now are unacceptable. If elected my day one goal is to organize the development and construction of high-density middle-class housing development to bring the cost of housing in our community down.
We need to do everything we can as a city to support local and small businesses here in Portland. To do that we need to re-establish a stable and predictable enviorment for bussiness owners. No longer can we as a city block new developments without legitimate legal grounds. If we want to change the rules for somthing to benefit the people of this city we must do so, but we cannot continue to enforce the rules on a case by case basis. It drives bussiness out of the city, destroys jobs, and contributes to the affordability crisis in our city.
As someone whose spent every year of his life since it was legal to do so working retail, I am fully aware of the challenges for workers at every end of the spectrum. As councilor I will push for changes that will improve the quality of life for workers, including regular scheduling mandates, childcare for working families, and keeping the city as a union-friendly city.
Together, we can bring actionable change that will improve the everyday for working people in our city, be young men like me, families, or any other resident of any demographic of our city.
Portland has a crisis; it's streets are dirty, unsafe to drive on, and families and people feel unsafe. A major goal of mine if elected is to fix these issues. Repave roads especially ones like Lane Ave, areas of Forest Ave, clean our streets from trash and waste, and ensure our sidewalks and bus stops are well lit at night.
This all in additon to efforts to ensure our City is accesisble and walkable, making sidwalks smoother, painting bike lanes, widening bike lanes around of schools, and redesigning parts of roads to slow the speed of traffic on resedential streets.
As a young member of the City of Portland, I am personally affected by decisions we make now even 40 years from now. If we spend today finding ways to sustainably build our city both financially and climate-wise.
As Councilor one of my goals is to find ways to without tax increases, or straining our budget discover solutions to reduce pollution in all it's forms and make our city greener, healthier, affordable, and enjoyable place to live.
